In addition to being an accomplished author, Lily McKee was a talented actress. During her last year of high school—when she also starred as Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, above—Lily participated in the Folger Shakespeare Library’s High School Fellowship. The Fellowship allowed Lily to explore her passion for Shakespeare, build self-confidence, and establish friendships with students she would otherwise never have met. It was one of her most treasured experiences, and she continued to attend Folger performances with fond memories for the rest of her too-short life.
This selective, merit-based program gathers students from high schools all over Washington, D.C., both public and private. Because it is fully funded at no cost to fellows, it allows for students to participate who otherwise would not be able to afford such extracurricular programs. This year, the High School Fellowship lost funding. In Lily’s memory, her family has made an initial donation to continue the program and rename it the Lily McKee High School Fellowship Program. We invite you to join us in leaving a legacy for Lily, and we feel that this is one that would make her happy and proud.
If you would like to make a donation, you may donate online at www.folger.edu/McKee.
